## Who this is for

Anyone doing continuous delivery who wants the principles rather than one vendor's implementation of them.

## What it covers

- GitOps terminology (20%)
- GitOps principles (30%)
- Related practices (16%)
- GitOps patterns (20%)
- Tooling (14%)

*Domain names above reflect the current official curriculum's topic areas; exact weightings are set by the Linux Foundation/CNCF and revised periodically, so check their published curriculum for the current breakdown.*

## Why it's worth it

The tool-agnostic one, and the only exam here where tooling is the smallest domain at 14%. That is the point: it certifies that you understand declarative desired state, continuous reconciliation and drift, rather than which buttons a particular controller has. If you have been doing GitOps by copying someone else's Argo config, this is the exam that makes you understand why it works.

## Prep tips

- Principles and patterns are half the exam. Be able to explain state drift, reconciliation and rollback in your own words before you touch a practice test.
- The terminology domain is 20% and it is precise. The GitOps working group has written definitions, and the exam uses them rather than the loose industry usage.
- Do not over-prepare tooling. It is 14%, and candidates routinely spend most of their time there because it is the comfortable part.

## Frequently asked questions

**What is the CGOA certification?**

The Certified GitOps Associate, a 90-minute multiple-choice exam on GitOps terminology, principles, patterns and related practices. Deliberately tool-agnostic.

**How much is the CGOA with a discount code?**

List price is $250. With RUSHABH30 it drops to about $175, a saving of roughly $75.

**Do I need to know Argo or Flux?**

Not specifically. Tooling is the smallest domain at 14%, and the exam is written to be implementation-neutral. Experience with either helps, but neither is assumed.

**Is CGOA worth it if I already do GitOps daily?**

Honestly, less than you would hope. It certifies understanding rather than skill, so its value is mostly to people formalising knowledge or needing the credential on paper. If you already run reconciling delivery and nobody is asking you to prove it, spend the money elsewhere.
