Prep tips

Go in with your own AI bill in front of you, split into inference, training, and the storage and egress around them, because the allocation material only lands once you can see how blurred those lines are in practice.
The three levels build on each other, moving from visibility to optimization to forecasting and governance, so resist skipping ahead to the optimization content.
Treat the forecasting section as the important one. AI budgets fail on estimation far more often than on inefficiency.

There is no hard prerequisite, but the FinOps Foundation strongly recommends completing either FinOps Certified Practitioner or FinOps Certified Engineer first, because the course assumes you already know the framework.

Is this certification worth it if we only use hosted APIs?

Yes, arguably more so. API-billed AI spend is the easiest kind to lose track of, because it needs no provisioning and shows up as one line on a bill that nobody owns.
