Who this is for

Platform and security engineers who enforce cluster policy, or are about to be asked to.

What it covers

  • Fundamentals of Kyverno (18%)
  • Installation, configuration and upgrades (18%)
  • Kyverno CLI (12%)
  • Applying policies (10%)
  • Writing policies (32%)
  • Policy management (10%)

Domain names above reflect the current official curriculum's topic areas; exact weightings are set by the Linux Foundation/CNCF and revised periodically, so check their published curriculum for the current breakdown.

Why it's worth it

Almost a third of this exam is writing policies, which is the correct emphasis and also the reason it is harder than its beginner label suggests. Kyverno's pitch is policy as Kubernetes resources rather than a separate language, so if you have bounced off Rego and OPA before, this is the friendlier route into admission control.

Prep tips

  • Writing policies is 32%. Write them, repeatedly, against a real cluster. Validate, mutate and generate rules all behave differently and the exam covers all three.
  • Learn the CLI properly. It is 12% and it is also how you will test policies without deploying them, which makes the rest of the preparation faster.
  • Understand where admission control sits in the request path. Several questions become obvious once you know when a policy actually runs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the KCA certification?
The Kyverno Certified Associate, a 90-minute multiple-choice exam on Kyverno fundamentals, installation, the CLI, and writing, applying and managing policies.
How much is the KCA with a discount code?
List price is $250. With RUSHABH30 it drops to about $175, a saving of roughly $75.
Is KCA a security certification?
Partly. It covers policy enforcement, which is a security control, but it is narrower than the CKS. If you want a broad Kubernetes security credential, CKS is the one; KCA proves you can enforce policy with a specific tool.
Kyverno or OPA?
Kyverno expresses policy as Kubernetes resources, OPA uses Rego, a separate language. Neither is objectively better, but Kyverno has the gentler learning curve for people who already think in YAML manifests. This exam only covers Kyverno.
